29.11.2002 Unique interactive training systems

The project Math Olympiads is a set of 10 sport games which aim is to train children’s basic math skills. This goal is achieved by the integration of a playing process and math tasks. While playing a child is offered to answer some questions. The quickness and correctness of the answers influence getting of a price winning place as well as a place in an overall table of records. A child can both train himself while playing with a virtual player and compete with the player whose result is in a record table of a definite game. Besides there are games (so called relay races) where can compete up to 4 players at the same time making up a team.

In the given version the project was carried out to teach American school children of a junior school age to count quickly. The project Math Olympiads is implemented with the use of Web animation technology Flash. In addition to it JSP and XML technologies were used to provide functioning of separate facilities. The project consists of the following sports games:

  • Running;
  • Swimming;
  • Rowing;
  • Bycicle;
  • Mountain Bike;
  • Archery;
  • Pole-vault;
  • Long Jump;
  • Taek Wan Do;
  • Javelin;
  • Relays

    This project is interesting as an opportunity to use it in a process of training. Its present version is meant to improve counting skills of junior children (nevertheless, as project testing showed a high level of complexity together with all the arithmetic operations and fractions can be also useful for other stages of training as an instrument that helps to train rather complicated mental arithmetic calculations) but it can be improved and supplemented with other subjects as well as with games (sports orientation is not obligatory) and find a wide application at schooling establishments as a training instrument.

    In addition to practical skills this program product can be used in the process of junior schoolchildren training in computer literacy especially in conformity with net technologies and the Internet.
